WASATCH SC ACADEMY PHILOSOPHY:
Many of us watch professional soccer and marvel at the true greats of the game. But have you ever wondered what makes them so great? They obviously have great skill on the ball and a canny ability to “see” the field and the game at another level. But how did they get that skill and vision? The key to developing these attributes is through an intense concentration on deceptive dribbling and finishing from the earliest ages. The greats of our sport started their careers playing in the streets and dirt fields where there was little structure and an encouragement to be flashy, hold the ball and score goals. This focus has been tried and proven by Wasatch trainers with tremendous results.
Wasatch SC’s academy program has three main goals. First, teach fundamental deceptive dribbling moves to include; pull-backs, step-overs, scissors, Diegos, Matthews, Iniestas and combinations of these. Second, to instill confidence in each player that they can receive the ball, hold possession of it and take defenders on without risk of punishment or negative response. Third, to engrain a true love of the game into each and every player by boosting ball handling confidence, offering positive reinforcement, and rewarding great technique and effort.
Kids love to play and create. They have a natural tendency to be creative and adventurous. The inexperienced player has a strong desire to learn and grow, and this needs to be encouraged. He/she desires to have the ball and wants to be taught how to do amazing things with it. Mastering the ball through deceptive dribbling requires constant contact with the ball and constant movement with that ball. Academy players will have a ball at their feet at least 80% of the time during training. This constant contact enables faster comprehension and avoids the boredom of standing in lines. Having fun equals enthusiasm, having enthusiasm equals hard work and effort, and having hard work and effort during training equals a faster developing soccer player.
WASATCH SC ACADEMY GOAL:
We want every player to leave Wasatch Academy stronger in every department of skill, tactics, physiology and psychology than before they became involved. The only way to guarantee this is make each player phenomenally deceptive dribblers and goal scorers FIRST. We put these skills under ever increasing pressure so that creativity is richly entwined with a great work ethic, quick intelligence and excellent physical fitness.

ROUNDUP EVENT:
The academy roundup will occur the month before tryouts in May. This will consist of each age/gender group meeting with a club trainer and receiving fundamentals training. This event is an opportunity for the players to get familiar with the club trainers. They can meet and make friends within their gender/age group. Parents are welcome to ask questions about the academy program, the academy league or about Wasatch SC in general.
